About this trip

The Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is a unique opportunity for those who may not have as much time to hike the full Inca Trail. This trek combines highlights from the original Inca Trail, with some of the most beautiful Inca ruins nestled in the dense vegetation of the cloud forest. Enter to Machu Picchu through the Sungate (Inti Punku), and from here you can take in one of the most spectacular views of The Lost City of the Incas. We arrive in Machu Picchu late in the afternoon and therefore have the unique opportunity to see the city almost empty. You’ll spend the second day exploring all the wonders of Machu Picchu city.

I have been working with TreXperience for 6 years. They organized the Laris Trek for 4 friends, the Choquequirao trek for 3 friends and in June 2025 a family trip for 8 people for aThe 8 day tour including Lima, Paracas, Huacachina, Nazca, Cusco, the sacred valley and the 2 day trek to Machu Picchu. In every case the communication, level of service, coordination and attention to detail were superb. On th 8 day tour I worked with customizing the trip with Rosmel, who made sure the needs for individual members of our party were covered. Some didn't like to fly in small planes, some get sea sick, and in every case Rosmel made alternative arrangements so everyone had a good time. Even during the trip when issues came up with members in our party, Rosmel was able to make changes on the fly. The accomodation in all cases were superb, the guides were intelligent and in every case we were met at the airport on arrival with transport to our hotel, assistance with check in and even transport back to the airport at the end of the trip. If you want a full service, customizable experience with the best level of service, I can recommend TreXperience without hestation.

The views and hikes were amazing and met some lovely people in our group. Would do the trek without a guide if I were to do it again. Food and accommodation were disappointing for much of the trip.

We were extremely grateful for the hard work of your travel expert Rosmel Roque. He communicated closely with us to design two options for our week long jam-packed adventure; he fixed a difficulty with the payment system; when my daughter injured her ankle he arranged a last minute alternate plan for her travel while we hiked the day hike Inca trail to Machu Pichu. We were amazed that he responded on a weekend, an evening to help and even a very early query to help sort out a problem when the driver was given the wrong hotel for our airport pickup. The entire tour was very reasonably priced. We were pleasantly surprised at the high quality of the hotels we stayed in. We always had very nice breakfasts with selections of fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy and non-dairy milks, coffee, teas, and rolls. Everything was clean, beautiful, and well staffed. Our guides were all well-informed and each provided a carefully prepared route and script for each days activities. The only notable glitch was that twice the changes made by the airlines to our arrival times was not transmitted to the guides and they had to make adjustments to their plans for us on the spot. The only suggested improvement is to allow the travelers flexibility in food stops. One day we did not have time to stop for lunch before the tour and bad traffic caused us not to get to hotel till 8pm for dinner. Another day while driving back to Lima from Nazca we asked to have lunch first but the driver had a preplanned lunch stop and we didn’t have lunch till 4 pm. We were extremely happy with our Inca Trail- Machu Pichu Guides: Jason, fluent in English and Sebastian, who grew up in the next valley. Both were well versed in the history and culture of Machu Pichu itself. Jason was very knowledgeable about the ecology and culture and entertaining! He kept our spirits up on the most grueling parts of the short Inca trail. Sebastian cheerfulness was inspiring, he shared his knowledge of the plants and the area. He always popped up, once after escorting two hikers back to the train, then jogging back up to catch up with us, and made sure we caught the train in Aguas Caliente.

The half day trip was a great way to see some of the major sights of Cusco. I loved that the main focus of the tour was Inca ruins and traditions. There is a even mix of walking to sites close to each other and having a shuttle take us to other sites to make the best use of our time. I would highly recommend this tour if you find yourself with a free afternoon in Cusco.

We did the four-day Inca trail and highly recommend TreXperience. They handled all the details including airport transfers, tours, hotel, hike, train from Macchu Picchu and care for our vegetarian diet. They made it so easy and created a magical experience for us. Guide Jose Luis and his assistant Sergio were excellent. Their knowledge and passion of the area and history were beyond compare. They made sure we were taken care of and even used detective skills to track down our lost iPhone which we got back! Definitely book if you're on the fence!
